Jose Luis and Philip of Smurfit Kappa Europe are raising money for Ukraine by pedaling for 8 weeks. About 40 more days to go
Inspired by the initiative, announced by Smurfit Kappa Europe following the russian invasion of Ukraine, two brave SKG workers José Luis Tani Stanghellini and Philippe Rechoulet decided to make a challenging ride to the Nordkapp raising money for families in Ukraine.
The cyclists have been on the road for 8 weeks now. They crossed Germany and Denmark, enjoying a warm welcome at the Smurfit Kappa sites and breathtaking scenery.
“Their bodies are tired but their morale is high and the sun is shining!🌞” Smurfit Kappa shares about the men.
“Still about 40 days to go to reach their goal of Nordkapp! An incredible effort so far, keep pedaling guys, you’re making us proud! 💪🚲”
Thank you so much, dear colleagues, you are our inspiration!

Smurfit Kappa Europe announced their sponsorship of the Nordkapp Objective, a fundraising initiative designed by the European Works Council. The Nordkapp Objective is a bike tour lasting for approximately 100 days. The purpose is to provide further support to Ukrainian communities and raise awareness of climate change and the benefits of an active lifestyle in liaison with the SKG Wellbeing For Life campaign.
The brave cyclists departed from Gibraltar on the 4th of May 2022 to cycle for approximately 6,500 km to reach Nordkapp in Norway, also known as Europe’s northernmost point.
While crossing ten different countries, they are visiting 44 Smurfit Kappa locations to fundraise money for Lekarze Bez Granic, a Polish affiliate of Medecins Sans Frontieres which are on the front line supporting the arrival of refugees as they flee this terrible conflict. Videos and photos are available both on Smurfit Kappa social media and on a dedicated YouTube channel here.
Smurfit Kappa promises to match the donations and double the donors’ efforts.
