Fiera Milano exhibition center hosted the WorldStar Award 2022
“After two years of lockdown and getting used to attend hybrid and virtual events, we were thrilled to be able to organize WorldStar Award ceremony physically and to greet and recognize the WorldStar winners on a stage!” said WorldStar Coordinator and WPO VP Events, Soha Atallah (Lebanon).
“Last night was a magic night with the packaging community celebrating packaging excellence from around the globe.”
WorldStar 2022 featured 240 winners and over 440 entries from 37 countries. The countries with the most awards were Germany (28), ANZ (27), Japan (23) and China (15). About 300 professionals attended the event.
“I had the mission of choosing the best from the best, knowing that this packaging will make the difference in the world and will have a positive impact in one or various important aspects of modern life, as environment protection, sustainability, food safety or save food,” said WPO President Pierre Pienaar (Australia), presenting the President’s Awards.
His ultimate choice was as follows: Gold went to Austrian Mondi‘s functional barrier papers for sustainable packaging solutions, capable of completely replacing plastic films and laminates (puncture resistant, flexible, printable, recyclable and with barrier protection properties).
The Silver was for the recyclable capsule dispenser (not on the paper theme. – Ed.), and the Bronze was for the BeeeerBox (Smurfit Kappa – Czech Republic), having excellent protective properties combined with 40% reduction of packaging and transportation costs.
